Building Your Hive
August 13-16, 2023
Building Your Hive is an extended, in-depth introduction on what to expect during the first few weeks of college. During the three-day event, staff and faculty will be on-hand to help new Ambrosians learn skills essential for college success such as time management, how to study, being proactive, asking for help, accepting help, and self-advocacy.
This event is for admitted first-year students who are minority and/or first-generation* college students from the following counties:
Illinois - Rock Island, Mercer, Henry, Knox, Warren
Iowa - Scott, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, Louisa
In addition to the services already present at St. Ambrose that help students succeed in achieving a bachelor's degree, each student in this group will be assigned to a dedicated Peer Mentor. This person will check in with their mentee throughout the academic year and attend university events together.
*a first-generation student is defined as, a student with neither parent or guardian has earned a four-year degree.
